Use Evette R. Avery, MAFM, serves as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Teamsters LGBTQ+ Caucus. She is a dedicated businesswoman, activist, and organizer who advocates for workers' rights and equality. Evette holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Jacksonville State University and a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Financial Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.
Since joining UPS in 2006, Evette has spent most of her career as a Union Steward. One of her notable achievements was successfully filing a group grievance that resulted in significant changes to the contract language regarding pension eligibility for UPS employees in the 2013-2018 Master Agreement.
Evette has consistently demonstrated her commitment to solidarity by actively participating in picket lines and actions alongside Teamster members from Republic Waste (Local 728) and UPS Aircraft Maintenance (Local 2727). She also supports various labor movements, including those involving AT&T (CWA), the Fight for $15 Campaign (Atlanta Jobs With Justice), the Delta Workers Unite Campaign (IAM), TSA Workers Action (AFGE), and Uber/Lyft Drivers (Rideshare Drivers United).
One of Evette's significant challenges arose during her time at Delta Air Lines, where she faced termination for her organizing efforts. This experience led to the creation of the #StandWithEvette campaign, highlighting the importance of worker solidarity.
Outside of her activism, Evette enjoys spending quality time with her wife, Millicent, and their children and grandchildren. Originally from Gadsden, Alabama, she has proudly called Georgia home since 2003.
We are honored to have Evette as part of the Teamsters LGBTQ+ Caucus, where her passion for justice and equality continues to inspire and empower others.
